Drug Uses
Buspar is purposed to fight generalized anxiety disorder. Your doctor, however, can prescribe it also for other diagnosis. This drug influences certain chemicals in the human brain that are causing anxiety and might be out of balance.
How Taken
Buspar should be taken together with food or milk if you have upset stomach. You should take Buspar exactly the way it is prescribed. You should not take more or less than the instructed dose or take it more frequently than prescribed. Your condition will significantly improve within 7 to 10 days from the start of the treatment. For full recovery it is needed around 3 to 4 weeks so that the drug will show its full effect.
Warnings/Precautions
Before prescribing Buspar, your doctor should be aware if you have suffered any of the following diseases: any kind of drug allergies, kidney or liver disease. You should not consume alcohol while taking Buspar as it may increase dizziness or drowsiness that Buspar causes. Be careful when performing any activities requiring full attention as driving. In case of pregnancy, inform your doctor before starting treatment with Buspar. There is not any information whether Bispar passes to breast milk. Inform your doctor in case you are breast-feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is too close to the next dose, just leave the missed one and follow your normal dose schedule. Do not take two doses at a time.
Possible Side Effects
There is a possibility to occur the following side effects: headache, blurred vision, gain of weight, muscle aches, nausea, ringing in the ears, altered taste of smell and taste, dizziness, drowsiness, vivid dreams, weakness, lightheadedness, dry skin, fatigue, sleeplessness. If you experience some of the following symptoms and if they do not vanish easily and even deepen, immediately contact your doctor. You should also contact your doctor if you feel: depression, discoordination, confusion, abnormal movements or “twitches” of the muscles of the face and neck, other involuntary tremors or movements, chest pain, difficulties breathing. There are also possible to emerge other effects that are not listed above, in which case you should again find medical help.
Storage
Buspar should be kept in its original container, tightly closed and away from children. It is best to keep it in an average room temperature and do not expose it to heat and moisture. You should get rid of any outdated drugs or such that are not longer needed.
Overdose
If you have doubts that you have overdosed, immediately contact emergency room or the nearest poison control center. The overdose symptoms can be drowsiness, decreased pupil size, vomiting, nausea, dizziness.
More Information
Before prescribing you Buspar, your doctor should be informed about any prescribed or over-the-counter drugs that you might be taking: azole or macrolide antibiotics, haloperidol, narcotic pain medications, other drugs for anxiety or depression. During treatment period, you should avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit unless your doctor gives you other instructions. You should not start or quit any medicine without consulting your physician.
