Drug Uses
Allegra-D is prescribed for treatment of allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It fights successfully sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/ and/or throat, itchy/watery/red eyes, and nasal congestion.
How Taken
Allegra-D should be taken twice a day for adults and children 12 years of age and older. It should not be taken together with food. If you suffer from decreased renal function, you should take only one tablet once a day.
Warnings/Precautions
You should avoid taking Allegra-D if you have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days; urinary retention or an enlarged prostate, asthma or another lung disease; diabetes; thyroid problems; kidney or liver disease; or heart disease, glaucoma or increased eye pressure, high blood pressure, or an irregular heartbeat. If you have any of the following complaints, It is possible that you are not able to take Allegra-D, or you may need a special adjustment of the dosage or a special medical observation during treatment period. Allegra-D is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information whether it can cause harm to an unborn baby. In case of pregnancy or if there is any chance of getting pregnant during treatment period, consult your doctor first. There is also not any information if Allegra-D goes into breast milk. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Allegra-D is forbidden for children under the age of 12.
Missed Dose
In case you forget a dose, take it the moment you remember. If it is close to the timing of the next dose, just miss the dose u have forgotten about and go back to your normal dose timing. Do not take two doses at a time in order to make up for the one that you have missed.
Possible Side Effects
The possible side effects include: upset stomach, nausea, trouble sleeping, headache, or symptoms of catching a cold. If the symptoms do not vanish or even go worse, contact your doctor. You may also complain of dizziness, changes of the mood, fast heartbeat, and fever. You should immediately contact your doctor in case of fainting, irregular heartbeat. It is rare but not impossible to feel drowsy and influence any activities involving alertness (e.g., driving). There can be also observed other side effects that are not listed above. If you have any complaints during the treatment period, consult your physician.
Storage
Allegra-D should be kept at an average room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) and it make sure it is away from heat and moisture.
Overdose
Taken in larger than the prescribed doses, Allegra-D is likely to cause giddiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, sweating, thirst, tachycardia, precordial pain, palpitations, difficulty in micturition, muscular weakness and tenseness, anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia. It can also cause toxic psychosis with delusions and hallucinations or suffer from cardiac arrhythmias, circulatory collapse, convulsions, coma, and respiratory failure
More Information
You should be cautious when driving, working with machines, or doing other similar activities. Allegra-D is possible to cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, make sure you do not perform such activities. During treatment, do not take an antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium. These antacids lower the efficiency of Allegra-D.
